Warning Issued: May 6, 2011

The Consumers Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers of multiple safety hazards associated with the use of phil&teds "Metoo" clip-on table top chairs. These chairs clip on to tabletops using metal vice clamps and the child is then placed in the seat of the hanging chair. Falls and serious head injury from impact can occur in the following ways:

        (1) the clamp that secures the chair to table tops can detach;
        (2) the chair can detach if child pushes against another object or moves around and
        (3) if the product is used as shown on packaging and in marketing materials. Using the product in such ways can increase the likelihood of injury.    However, the instructions do not warn of these hazards.

Pinching, laceration and amputation hazards can also occur if the child's fingers get caught between the horizontal metal bar at the front of the chair and the clamp.
The clip-on chairs affected by this warning do not have plastic spacers between the table clamps and the front horizontal metal bar; the others are still under investigation.

The CPSC is aware of multiple injuries related to the use of this product. phil&teds USA has yet to initiate a voluntary recall of this product to address the safety issues, therefore, the CPSC is warning consumers to stop using this product immediately to prevent potential injuries. The company has offered a repair kit consisting of rubber boots to place on the upper clamp grips of the chair, however, it does not meet the CPSC's standards and is not approved for use.
