Home Information Station Newborn Thrush

Thrush

  • A yeast infection in the mouth that resembles milk on the tongue or inside of the cheeks. However, unlike milk, thrush cannot be removed with wiping.
  • Thrush requires a prescription for an anti-fungal medication from your pediatrician.
  • Be sure to sterilize all nipples, nipple shields, pacifiers and toys daily. These items may be washed in the dishwasher with the water temperature set on the hottest setting. White distilled vinegar can be added to the rinse cycle.
  • If you are breastfeeding and are experiencing burning and/or itching on your nipples, you may need a prescription for an anti-fungal medication from your doctor.
